(2:18) refers to Allah saying that they are deaf, dumb and blind, and one may ask, why cannot the return to the right path?
If someone is trying to guide them, through the radio, TV, or any other source, that would start to bother them, they would close it immediately. Or if there is any type of gathering, and one tries to raise an Islamic topic, their faces change and awkward questions start coming up, although they claim to be Muslim but only for worldly education. If someone becomes a PhD or has a degree, or someone has some status, in their successful business or jobs, then Satan gives them an idea to avoid that they do not have any time to hear Islamic topics. The entire evening they would sit back and flip through channels on TV and watch what is going on in the Muslim World, and how their people are suffering, and all they would do is that they would feel sympathy, but they do not have time to sit and think about themselves, this is another form of being "deaf".
One can see how Satan can misguide us. Today if one would talk to Muslims they are talking about all kinds of aspects in matters related to this world. They show themselves that they are smart in any aspect from the computer field to space. If you talk to them, they would tell you unlimited knowledge. However if you talk with them about Islam, although they may have knowledge about it, they are shy to speak out. One should ask himself, everyday how many people do we convey the message of Islam to? Today a father or mother would be shy to speechless when it comes to talking about Islam with their children. A husband would be shy to ask his wife to take a hijaab or a veil, which is an obligatory ruling of Islam. Or would be shy to tell his wife to stop watching soap operas, or not to talk, or meet with a certain family, which is a right of the husband. Or the same thing goes when a wife would be shy to tell her husband when he is not a practicing Muslim, and when he delays his prayers (salah). She is scared that he would feel angry, and because of lack of knowledge, she is under the impression that she would commit a sin if she tries to tell her husband about Islam. Or sometimes if he wants to grow a beard, he is scared how will he answer people in society about his beard, or his Islamic clothing. Why do we not think that if we die, how will we answer to our real questioner, who will punish us based upon our deeds. Those who are questioning us today, will never come to answer for us in our grave or on the day of judgment. Another issue would be sometimes when a lady would want to take a hijaab, or a veil, and her husband stops it, because he wants to make sure his wife should be a model in society, while forgetting that his wife is for him and not for society. There are some who force their wives to do a lot of make up, and to wear clothing which reveals her body. Satan gives him ideas that until she does not look well moved in society than that means that the husband will look financially unstable. In some parties when it is time for prayer, sometimes no one stands to give the call for prayer (adhan), and instead arrange a party, with all types of foolish things (such as, rental movies, musical games, dance parties,). If someone tries to raise an Islamic topic, the host would feel shy to call his friends in those sittings.
At home everyday they would see the Qur'an, and some hadeeth books, but they are very busy with their daily routines in matters related to this world. If they have a weekend or a holiday, they would have all sorts of plans on how to spend their holidays, however they have no time to open the Qur'an and understand it, and never think to apply it in their lives. Everyday when they see non-believers (kaafirs) or hear about their fashions, designs, or their organized systems, they would appreciate it more than anything. However they are so blind to realize about the greatness of Allah, and how he has organized the different systems in space, in the seas, or in our bodies. All of the materialistic things that people would appreciate, are only used temporarily during their lifetimes. No one would take the luxuries, business, status, houses, etc. with them in the grave. This is all blindness by those who claim to be Muslims, but do not have time to think about the greatness of Allah's creations and his blessings. They just call themselves Muslims avoiding to understand the powers and controls of Allah, they became a worshipper of a materialistic lifestyle. "So they return not (to the Right Path)." Why is Allah saying that they would not return to the right path? Because Allah knows that in their lifestyle routines, ignorance about Islamic laws, and the examples of the Prophet, have became a part of their lives. Their ideals and heroes are the enemies of Allah and his Prophet, who are the disbelievers (kaafirs). In their hearts Islam is an outdated religion, regardless if their name would be Muhammed so and so. But Allah knows the best what they conceal within their hearts, and that is why Allah gives such strong wording when he says "So they return not", unless we do not try and change ourselves, and our hobbies, because the doors of mercy are open before the event of death, or any other major disease, why? When people get involved in some calamity such as death or disease, then they remember Allah, so it is important to make sure you remember him at all times, so we don't to become like the unbelievers. Give yourself and your generations a favor to realize reality, and stop day dreaming, which will stay right here in the world, and would not come in the grave. Note: However the doors of repentance are never closed until death, and we should cry and beg to Allah in order to open our eyes and hearing so we can understand the orders of our creator, sustainer, and our provider, we should always remember that Allah's mercy is more stronger then his punishments, if one tries to seek it within his lifetime, inshallah. |
