Yes if one claims to be a Muslim regardless where one is. Islam is not by label, if one's name is Muhammad for example, it is not enough. Islam is a law, whoever follows will get benefits, and can call him or herself a Muslim. It is not like drinking water, if one drinks it will start to shine, Islam is a name of practice.

In school we learn how to raise our materialistic life, and dealings, and knowledge of worldly matters, which would help us as long as we are alive.

Once we leave this world, the angels, regardless what university or degree one holds, they would treat according to your deeds. Now what are those deeds, which can save us in our grave and on the day of judgment from the never ending punishments, and there would be no help over there.

arabic
Verily! We have made that which is on earth as an adornment for it, in order that We may test them (mankind) as to which of them are best in deeds. [i.e.those who do good deeds in the most perfect manner, that means to do them (deeds) totally for Allāh's sake and in accordance to the legal ways of the Prophet SAW ]. (18:6)

arabic
And verily! We shall make all that is on it (the earth) a bare dry soil (without any vegetation or trees, etc.). (18:7)

If one is smart, should focus what type of life they would have in there grave when they would be alone ten feet deep, or when they would raise, what they will go through, to deny Allah's laws an his prophets examples for this world. When we are in school, and we would want to show ourselves as well moved and modern people, and that Islamic things apply at home, when there is pressure from one's mother, father, or culture.

Or what would people think if I don't practice Islam on the weekends, or in front of guests.

If we are practicing Islam in school and at home, then we are not hypocrites. And this is a very bad label, a hypocrite is worse than a non-believer. If someone leaves the law of Allah, because he or she thinks are afraid of society, he or she would be one of the non-Muslims. Regardless where one is, school, traveling, job, parties, when the time of prayer comes, it should not be ignored, especially students who are at school, and are stuck with the laws of school, should pray if the time of prayer happens during break, or Dhuhr can be made with 'Asr. Or should request special permission from the school principle, prayer is not to be ignored.

During the time of school, instead of talking about movies, music, soap operas, boyfriend or girlfriend, should be talking about learning and teaching Islam.

Whoever does not bring Islamic topics, amongst freinds is a hypocrite and a non-believer, a Muslim should not talk about anything else except focusing Islam.

arabic
And recite what has been revealed to you (O Muhammad SAW) of the Book (the Qur'ān) of your Lord (i.e. recite it, understand and follow its teachings and act on its orders and preach it to men). None can change His Words, and none will you find as a refuge other than Him. (18:27)

arabic
And keep yourself (O Muhammad SAW) patiently with those who call on their Lord (i.e. your companions who remember their Lord with glorification, praising in prayers, etc., and other righteous deeds, etc.) morning and afternoon, seeking His Face, and let not your eyes overlook them, desiring the pomp and glitter of the life of the world; and obey not him whose heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance, one who follows his own lusts and whose affair (deeds) has been lost. (18:28)

arabic
And say: "The truth is from your Lord." Then whosoever wills, let him believe, and whosoever wills, let him disbelieve. Verily, We have prepared for the Zālimūn (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.), a Fire whose walls will be surrounding them (disbelievers in the Oneness of Allāh). And if they ask for help (relief, water, etc.) they will be granted water like boiling oil, that will scald their faces. Terrible the drink, and an evil Murtafaqā (dwelling, resting place, etc.)! (18:29)

It is a good idea if one keeps a pocket sized Qur'an with translation, and could read and explain each other. Then one is safe, regardless wherever one lives, a Muslim or non-Muslim country.
