The story of the Festival of Love (Valentine’s Day)

The Festival of Love was one of the festivals of the pagan Romans, when paganism was the prevalent religion of the Romans more than seventeen centuries ago. In the pagan Roman concept, it was an expression of “spiritual love”. There were myths associated with this pagan festival of the Romans, which persisted with their Christian heirs. Among the most famous of these myths was the Roman belief that Romulus, the founder of Rome, was suckled one day by a she-wolf, which gave him strength and wisdom. The Romans used to celebrate this event in mid-February each year with a big festival. One of the rituals of this festival was the sacrifice of a dog and a goat. Two strong and muscular youths would daub the blood of the dog and goat onto their bodies, then they would wash the blood away with milk. After that there would be a great parade, with these two youths at its head, which would go about the streets. The two youths would have pieces of leather with which they would hit everyone who crossed their path. The Roman women would welcome these blows, because they believed that they could prevent or cure infertility.

Muslims are not cattle, when a sheep hear the bell of another sheep they follow blindly. Islamic teachings are based only on logic, and a way of life. Allah (SWT) is our creator who knows what is right and wrong for us.

We should not follow things blindly, we should show our love to our husband or wife every single day not only once a year, if we are a true believer. We should see the example and the behaviour of our Prophet towards his wives. His behavior was not only polite once a year but every day. And we should see the behavior of Khadijah, Ayesha (RA) and others, how were they kind and cooperative towards there husbands, in any aspect of life.

As Muslims know, Khaidjah (RA) who was a wealthy lady, and the Prophet (SAW) use to work for her before he was married to her, and she knew due to prophecy what the Prophet (SAW) will have to go through, and she passed away when the Muslims were thrown out of Makkah for 3 years.

We should see the devotion and example in order to understand what the real Valentines is, which is not only once a year.

arabic
And wish not for the things in which Allāh has made some of you to excel others. For men there is reward for what they have earned, (and likewise) for women there is reward for what they have earned, and ask Allāh of His Bounty. Surely, Allāh is Ever All Knower of everything. (4:32)

Every Muslim lady or man, should love his or hers' husband or wife every day, and not only once a year.

arabic
Never will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him ) till you follow their religion. Say: "Verily, the Guidance of Allāh (i.e. Islāmic Monotheism) that is the (only) Guidance. And if you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him ) were to follow their (Jews and Christians) desires after what you have received of Knowledge (i.e. the Qur'ān), then you would have against Allāh neither any Walī (protector or guardian) nor any helper. (2:120).

arabic
But if they answer you not (i.e. do not believe in your doctrine of Islāmic Monotheism, nor follow you), then know that they only follow their own lusts. And who is more astray than one who follows his own lusts, without guidance from Allāh? Verily! Allāh guides not the people who are Zālimūn (wrong-doers, disobedient to Allāh, and polytheists). (28:50)

A good Muslim or Muslmah, should love his or hers' husband or wife for every movement in life, in order to achieve a successful marriage life, which our beloved Prophet (SAW) explained in his last sermon.
